Important: This is an apprenticeship engagement under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Selected candidates are not treated as employees of Union Bank of India and are not entitled to employee benefits. Apprentices are also not permitted to join or form any union body during the training period. Completion of apprenticeship does not guarantee regular absorption into the bank.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must hold a Graduate Degree in any discipline from an Institute, College, or University recognised or approved by the Government, AICTE, or UGC. Two additional conditions apply: the graduation result must have been declared on or before 01 April 2026, and the graduation must not be older than four years — meaning the passing date must be 01 April 2022 or later. Candidates whose results were declared after 01 April 2026 are not eligible.
Age Limit
The minimum age is 20 years and the maximum is 28 years, calculated as on the cut-off date of 01 April 2026. Age relaxation applies as follows: SC/ST candidates get 5 years; OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates get 3 years; PwBD (UR/EWS) candidates get 10 years; PwBD (OBC) 13 years; PwBD (SC/ST) 15 years. Widows, divorced women, and women legally separated from their husbands (not remarried) are eligible up to 35 years (General/EWS), 38 years (OBC), and 40 years (SC/ST). OBC candidates in the creamy layer must apply under the General/UR category and are not entitled to OBC age relaxation.
Note: Change of category is not permitted after submission of the online application.
Nationality
Candidates must be Indian citizens. Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before 01 January 1962, and persons of Indian origin who have migrated from specified countries with intent to permanently settle are also eligible, subject to a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.
Stipend
Selected apprentices receive a fixed monthly stipend for the one-year contract period. The amount depends on the branch or office location where the apprentice is posted:
| Branch / Office Category | Monthly Stipend |
|---|---|
| Rural / Semi-Urban | ₹15,000 |
| Urban | ₹18,000 |
| Metro | ₹20,000 |
Apprentices are not entitled to any other allowance or benefit — no PF, ESI, bonus, transport, or hostel facility is provided. The stipend is paid at the end of each month after adjusting for any unauthorised absence.
Selection Process
The selection consists of two stages:
Stage 1 — Online Examination: An objective-type written test of 100 marks conducted over 60 minutes. Subjects covered are Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge (exact section-wise marks as per official notification).
Stage 2 — Local Language Proficiency Test: Candidates shortlisted after the online exam must demonstrate proficiency in the local language of the state they have applied for. The specific language requirement varies by state — for example, Telugu for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Kannada for Karnataka, and Bengali for West Bengal. Candidates should verify the exact language requirement for their state in the official notification.
Document verification and medical fitness assessment are part of the final engagement process. Admission to the online test is provisional — eligibility is verified only at the document verification stage. The bank reserves the right to prepone, postpone, or cancel the examination without assigning reasons.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is this apprenticeship a regular bank job?
No. The official notification explicitly states that candidates engaged as apprentices are not employees of Union Bank of India and are not entitled to any employee benefits. Completion of the one-year training does not lead to automatic absorption into the bank’s regular workforce.
2. My graduation result was declared in June 2022. Am I eligible?
Yes, provided all other conditions are met. The notification requires graduation passed on or after 01 April 2022 and declared on or before 01 April 2026. A result declared in June 2022 falls within this window.
3. Do I need to register on NATS and NAPS before filling the application form?
Yes. Registration on both the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in) and the NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) is a mandatory pre-requisite. You must obtain your NATS Enrolment Code and NAPS Apprentice Code before accessing the BFSI SSC application form.
4. Can I change my category or state preference after submitting the form?
No. The official notification states that change of category is not permitted after submission of the online application. Similarly, state-wise posting is based on the state selected at application — review your choices carefully before submitting.
5. What is the language proficiency test, and when is it conducted?
The local language proficiency test is the second stage of selection. It is held after the online examination and evaluates the candidate’s proficiency in the official language of the state they have applied to — for example, Marathi for Maharashtra or Tamil for Tamil Nadu. The test date will be communicated by BFSI SSC to shortlisted candidates.
6. Where can I check the exact exam date once announced?
The online examination is tentatively scheduled for May/June 2026. The exact date will be communicated to fee-paid candidates by BFSI SSC via registered email. No hard copy of the call letter will be sent by post. Candidates should monitor both unionbankofindia.bank.in and bfsissc.com for updates.
